Make Cards with Pretty Paper Scraps

Crafters tend to have a hard time throwing things away because you never know when you’ll need it for a project! That includes skinny strips of patterned paper. They are just too pretty to throw away!!

Paper Strips Birthday Card

Paper Sizes:
Calypso Coral card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Pool Party: 4″ x 5-1/4″
Dotted Paper Strips: 1/2″ wide

There was no mathematical wizardry to how I put these dotted paper strips on the card. I just started with my base piece of Pool Party card stock and then taped the strips across so that they overlapped both ends of the base piece. The strips are not evenly spaced or a certain distance apart. I just plopped them on. Then I flipped over the Pool Party card stock and trimmed the ends off the paper strips so that they were even with the card stock. That’s it! Put that piece on your card front, add a greeting and you’re done!

The birthday greeting on this card is from the new Designer Tin of Cards stamp setFor some reason this stamp set did not jump out at me in the Stampin’ Up! catalog, but since I was given this stamp set for free I decided to try it. And WOW do I love it!! It’s amazing to me how different a stamp looks in a grayish black in the catalog and stamped in a bright color on card stock. Night and day I tell ya! Trust me when I say you’ll see me using this stamp set a lot.

I also used the new Layering Circle dies for the greeting. These are fun because each plain circle has a scallop circle that goes with it! It adds just enough color to give your greeting some pop and of course I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to add it to my card front for even a little more dimension. I’ve also paired these circle dies with some of my circle punches for even more variety. If you have a die cut machine, they are a must have!

Want to see even MORE cards you can make using paper strips like these? This card was actually made with the One Sheet Wonder template that I designed for our July One Sheet Wonder Card Club. This month I show you how to cut up your 6×6 pretty paper and use even the smallest scraps so that you don’t waste a piece! Join us now!
