Most Wonderful Time of the Year

By December 3, 2016Cards, Christmas

Christmas lights on houses as you drive through town, parties to gather with friends and family, Christmas music playing 24/7…

Wonderful Year Christmas CardReal Red card base: 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″
Whisper White: 2-3/4″ x 4-1/4″
Patterned Green Paper: 4″ x 4-1/4″

I love a big greeting stamp like this one from the Wonderful Year stamp setIt takes center stage on your card and all it needs is a little embellishment to finish it off. This is a Christmas card, but really any time could be the most wonderful time of the year. I think I’ll try this greeting on the front of a birthday card too. The inside could say “… because we get to celebrate you!” Just use different colors and replace the holly with balloons.

Ribbon can be tricky to add to cards. Sometimes a bow or knot just adds too much to a card and they can make the card harder to mail. For this card I just wrapped the ribbon across the front and tucked the ends between the layers of the card. To keep it in place I put some Fast Fuse adhesive (it’s really sticky!!) in a line across the card where I wanted the ribbon to go. Then using grid paper I made sure it was lined up straight across and that ribbon is now securely in place!!

Wonderful Year Christmas CardAdd a little holly. I am in love with the Stitched with Cheer stamp set and it’s a bonus that the Holly Builder Punch works with it. I am just too lazy to cut a bunch of little leaves out!! The holly pieces are attached to the card using glue dots. How many different adhesives can I use on one card? A lot!! I always use the right one for the job. Finally, using Real Red Enamel Shapes makes the holly berries just pop.

Mailing Tip: When your card has bumpy embellishments on it like the enamel shapes or rhinestones, it’s best to put an extra piece of card stock in the envelope with your card to protect it. You worked hard to make it, so don’t let the post office mess it up!

If you’re not feeling like it’s the most wonderful time of the year, it’s time to remember the real reason for the season. When we take Christ out of Christmas that’s when things get sticky. As it says in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He sent His one and only son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” Now that’s some great news! It doesn’t matter if we decorate our house, send cards, give stacks of perfectly wrapped presents or make a big feast. When we keep our eyes on Jesus everything else will fall into place and it truly will be the most wonderful time of the year no matter what the date on the calendar says.
