Usually when I make cards they are a finished size of 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. They are easy to make that size because you can get two cards by cutting a 8-1/2″ x 11″ piece of paper in half.  Plus they fit perfectly in my envelope of choice – the medium size from Stampin’ Up!

Every once in awhile I like to make a card that’s a difference size. It may be bigger, it may be smaller, it may be square or it may just be whatever size I end up with from a random piece of paper. Sometimes you just need to mix it up!

Just for fun, this spring thank you card is a little smaller than usual…

What I Love Thank You Card

Finished Size: 4″ x 4-1/4″

Paper Sizes:
Perfect Plum card base: 4-1/4″ x 8″
Pink Pirouette: 4″ x 3-3/4″

Stamping Tips:

  • It’s easy to stamp your own backgrounds! For this one, the flower is stamped in Pink Pirouette ink on the same color card stock for a subtle background.
  • Stamp or cut the shape first? When I’m stamping and cutting out an image with a coordinating punch or framelit I always stamp first, then cut. However for this one I cut my circle out first then stamped on it so that my flower would curve around the edges of the circle.
  • Want to make it look like your leaves are behind your flower? Use the masking technique. Stamp whatever image you want to be in front first. Then stamp it again on a piece of scratch paper and cut it out closely – that’s your mask. Place it over your main stamped image and then stamp your leaves over top of it. When you remove the mask it will look like the leaves are behind the flower!
  • Sponge your edges to add color & depth. Instead of adding another layer of card stock, try sponging ink on the edges of your card stock. For this card I sponged Pink Pirouette ink around the circle.
