Touches of Texture Sympathy Card

Sympathy cards are the ones that you never want to have to send but they are the most appreciated to receive. I like to make a few to have on hand because the need for them is often unexpected.

Touches of Texture Sympathy Card
Paper Sizes:
Whisper White: 2-3/4″ x 4-1/4″
Dapper Denim: 3″ x 4-1/2″
Pool Party card base: 4-1/4″ x 11″

When they gave me the new Touches of Texture stamp set on the Stampin’ Up! Mediterranean cruise earlier this year I knew it would be perfect for stamping backgrounds to make One Sheet Wonder Cards. And of course, I was right. 🙂 I started this card by stamping an entire sheet of 8-1/2″ x 11″ Whisper White card stock. Then I cut it up using the August One Sheet Wonder Card Club Template and used one of the pieces to make this sympathy card.

The angled card stock was a happy accident. I cut a mat of Dapper Denim card stock to frame my stamped background piece and then I plopped them down on my card front while I went to stamp my “With Sympathy” greeting. When I came back to see how to place my greeting, I really liked how my card stock pieces had fallen onto my card at an angle! I taped the background piece onto the Dapper Denim piece and then I wrapped a piece of Ruched Dapper Denim ribbon around them and tied it in a knot to one side.

To add a little interest to the card base I embossed the front with the Seaside Embossing Folder. The thickness of my sandwich was a bit too much and made the embossing tear my paper a little. Next time I’ll open both tabs on my Multi-Purpose Platform to add a more subtle texture.

The “With Sympathy” greeting was adhered to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals because that’s what I always do! It adds just a little bit of depth to the card & makes the greeting pop out. Plus in this case it would be really hard to glue the greeting down flat over the ribbon.

In the August One Sheet Wonder Card Club Video you’ll learn how to stamp your own background (I’ll show you step by step how I made this one and give you tips for making your own) plus you’ll get a NEW one sheet wonder template that will help you turn your 8-1/2″ x 11″ paper into cards FAST! I love what you did on both these cards! The set is kind of pricey, but I either need to save up or ask Santa for it. I agree with your approach– I am always trying to get my students to “deconstruct” the card and figure out how the elements are used, and then apply this information to make their own cards. Thanks!
